2019 Summer School
Student Policies and Procedures
Attendance: Each day of a Summer School course represents approximately one week in a regular school year. Therefore, regular attendance is required. If a student needs to be absent from Summer School due to illness, a parent or guardian should call the Summer School Office by 10am the day the student is absent. Summer vacation plans should not be scheduled during Summer School and students should schedule all appointments outside of school hours. For Example: seniors should NOT schedule portrait sittings during Summer School hours.
Absences: Because of the compact and accelerated nature of the program, students must be in attendance every day. Under extenuating circumstances, one absence may be allowed during the PUHSD 2019 Summer School Program. Any student who is absent from two (2) classes per course, regardless of the reason, may be dismissed from the Summer School Program.
Tardies: Being on time will contribute to the student’s academic success. It is important to plan transportation well in advance because critical instruction is missed when students do not arrive on time for class. Multiple tardies may result in being dropped from the PUHSD 2019 Summer School Program.
Credit: The student must currently be enrolled and attending a PUHSD school during the 2018-2019 school year in order to earn a .5 or 1.0 summer school credit. For Incoming Freshmen to earn .5 credit, the student must successfully complete the 2019 Fall semester at a PUHSD school.
Policies/Rules: The PUHSD Student Procedures Handbook remains valid during Summer School. Disciplinary problems will not be tolerated and the student will be dropped from Summer School. Note that any referrals received during Summer School will remain on the student’s discipline record until graduation. In addition, depending on the severity of the offense, a violation can lead to discipline up to and including long-term suspension or expulsion. Established policies regarding conduct, care of school property, and dress code will be maintained throughout Summer School. Students are not permitted to leave campus during established Summer School hours, including lunch time.
