Central Twin Athletes Commit To University

The Kwete twins have come a long way from a refugee camp in Zimbabwe, and after four years of high school football at Central, they will separate to opposite ends of the country to play Division I College Football.  Defensive lineman Eloi Kwete committed to play at the University of Massachusetts Monday.  The Umass coach has a Phoenix Union connection- head coach Mark Whipple was a star quarterback at Camelback High School, and is a member of the Phoenix Union Sports Hall of Fame.  Eloi’s brother and defensive end Cosmas was also being recruited by UMass, but a day later, decided on Washington State.

The two Kwete brothers and an older brother took to American football easily, since all played rugby growing up. Eloi, 6-foot-1, 250 pounds had 223 tackles, 135 solo tackles, eight sacks and four fumble recoveries in 20 varsity games.  Cosmas, 6-foot-3, 250, made azcentral sports' All-Arizona team last season.  He had 54 tackles, eight sacks and caused three fumbles his senior year
