South Alumni and Performing Arts Manager Honored for Their Work

Two former South Mountain students and Performing Arts magnet manager were honored  for their work in the 2011-12 season at the  23rd Annual ariZoni Awards of Excellence in Theatre ceremony, September 17. 


Susan St. John, who has been teaching in the Performing Arts Magnet for 19 years  was honored with a nomination as a Best Supporting Actress in the Mesa Community College production of ‘Pygmalion’.

Drama Magnet graduate, Michael Thompson (Class of  2006) was nominated and won Best Supporting Actor for his work in Stray Cat Theatre’s production of ‘Milk Milk Lemonade’.


Former Visual Arts Magnet student Kyle Bennett (Class of 1995)  received a nomination for his role as Pharoah in Mesa Encore Theatre’s production of ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’.  Kyle also showcased a musical number from that production during the ceremony.  While attending the Visual Arts Magnet at South Mountain, Kyle participated in many Performing Arts Magnet activities, including several musical productions.
