Governor Jan Brewer, State Superintendent of Public Instruction John Huppenthal and several community organizations that make up the Arizona Public Engagement Task Force came to Franklin High School, September 5 to launch ArizonaCommonCore.org, a web tool tool for Arizona Educators, families and business leaders to learn more about Arizona’s Common Core standards.  Students greeted all the dignitaries, and Principal Lorenzo Cabrera kicked off the event with a welcome speech.  He and some students then gave Governor Brewer and Huppenthal commemorative bricks that were original bricks from the 1926 building, and Franklin polo shirts.   Phoenix Union is already implementing the common core standards in English and algebra classes.  Forty-six states have joined in this initiative to implement rigorous new K-12 standards and assessments, so that from school district to school district, state to state, students will have consistent curriculum, and be able to better assess achievement compared to students nationwide.
