Up to 50 students will be inducted into the school’s new Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society today. Membership in Rho Kappa is an honor bestowed upon a student for his or her accomplishments in the field of Social Studies and overall academic achievement. South’s chapter is named after Ryan Lancaster, a beloved Social Studies teacher who was lost in a tragic accident five years ago. The National Council for the Social Studies began Rho Kappa in 2011 with a few chapters in Florida. South Mountain is proud to be one of the first schools in the nation to have a Rho Kappa charter.
