South’s Social Studies Department has been granted one of the first charters for the RHO KAPPA National Honor Society for Social Studies, Ryan J. Lancaster Chapter. RHO KAPPA is the only national organization for high school juniors and seniors excellence in the field of Social Studies. Students with a 3.0 grade point average or higher in their three years of Social Studies at South will be inducted and given a blue and gold cord for graduation. The chapter was named after Lancaster, a social studies teacher at South, who was killed in a car accident five years ago.
“Mr. Lancaster has left a legacy in many ways, and thanks to his family for making this chapter possible,” social studies instructional leader Cathy Ballman said.
