The Central Jazz Band has been invited by the Valley of the Sun United Way to take part in its yearly lunch banquet, April 20.  In addition, the United Way has requested that the band record the songs that the students have been working on this semester.

“They are going to use our recording and mass produce 1000 copies of this CD to give as a gift to everyone who comes to the banquet,” band director Jamie Johnston said.  “There are going to be approximately 1000 CEO’s and major executives that are in attendance at this year’s event.

The jazz band will rehearse with Diamondbacks’ organist Bobby Freeman, April 11, and go into a professional recording studio, April 12 for a day of recording six songs.

“The recording studio that we are recording at is called Big U Recording Studio. The owner, Sam Esparza, is a Central graduate and met his wife (Renee Young Esparza – band director at Maryvale) while they were both in band at Central.   Sam is donating his time to record our kids. This – for him is also a huge undertaking because he has to have the CD ready to ship out in less than 24 hour for the mass production.”
