Central High was the beneficiary of the BBVA Compass Bank and NBA Cares “TEAM.WORKS. IN SCHOOLS” hands-on service project, March 28. Over 100 bank employees and Central students joined the NBA Cares team to landscape, paint, install new furniture, and provide educational equipment such as smart boards, e-readers, drying cabinets for the art department and a new ice machine.   The NBA Cares team included NBA hall of Famer Bob Lanier, former Sun Cedric Ceballos, former Mercury Bridget Pettis and former NBA player Felipe Lopez.   After a kick-off rally, the crew was off to work sites, painting baseball dugouts, landscaping areas of campus and painting murals in the cafeteria.  Superintendent Kent Scribner, Governing Board President Linda Abril and Principal Chris Jones went shoulder to shoulder with the NBA and WNBA stars, painting a Bobcat in the cafeteria.  BBVA Compass has been with NBA Cares for two years now, doing revitalization projects in six cities this year.  This is the second year a Phoenix Union school was selected for the service project.  Last year, Trevor Browne received a visit from NBA Cares and BBVA.
