Alhambra's DECA Club Recognized for Excellence

Posted by Community Relations Department on 4/3/2012

Alhambra Sports, Entertainment & Hospitality Marketing/ DECA Club was one of 12 high schools nationally, and the only Arizona school to win the National DECA Aspire Higher Advocacy Campaign Award.

Alhambra won the PEAK Level (Silver) which challenged DECA chapters to perform three school outreach advocacy activities, perform three public policymaker outreach activities and perform three community outreach advocacy activities during Career and Technical Education Month in February.  This makes the third National Award that the Alhambra DECA program has won this school year.

Among the policymaker activities,  DECA did a letter writing campaign to  legislative   representatives expressing the value and need for support of programs like DECA in the Arizona educational system and the DECA members created a promotional kit about Alhambra DECA for businesses used to form partnership between the program and local businesses.  For school outreach, DECA students volunteered at the library for the entire month, and promoted DECA to middle school students and freshmen, and created several morning announcements and emails to promote the club to the faculty, staff and students.  In the community, the students helped a middle school theatre class on two Saturdays to build sets for a play, set up a Marketing/DECA website and brought several business partners to give the students first-hand business advice for the future, and emphasizing needed job skills to be successful.

Rob Lange is the Sport, Entertainment & Hospitality Marketing teacher and DECA Advisor.
