Ten Betty Fairfax math students traveled to the Arizona Cardinals Marquee Math competition at the Arizona Cardinals stadium, April 29. The two teams of five competed against 26 teams from all over the state. The students took a one-hour test consisting of physics and math questions written in a football context. Team one, consisting of Leo Ruelas, Leo Lopez, Yallison Wakayo, Stephanie Martinez and Justin Sanchez, took fourth place overall and team two placed 14th. This is the inaugural year of the Betty Fairfax Math club, which has been led by Ruelas, a National Hispanic scholar, who will be attending Texas A&M next Fall. The teams and club were organized by math teachers Susan Heikkinen and Katherine Martinez.
