Trevor Browne will host a naturalization ceremony, Monday, September 19, as 140 new U.S. citizens take the Oath of Allegiance to America, administered by a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) officer. It is the second year Phoenix Union has held a naturalization ceremony at a school, in conjunction with the District’s Civics Week. Joining the new citizens will be family and community members, 350 Trevor Browne U.S. History students, and social studies students from other campuses. Superintendent Dr. Chad Gestson will be the keynote speaker. The event, which begins at 11 a.m. in the auditorium, is the flagship event for the Phoenix USCIS office this year.

The naturalization ceremony coincides with National Citizenship Week, and Constitution Day, September 17. In keeping with the civics theme, Phoenix Union will also celebrate Voter Registration Day, with a District-wide registration day, Tuesday, September 27 for eligible students to register, before the October 10 deadline for the general election.   It is believed to be the largest school voter registration event in the country.
