This year at the Opening of Schools Convocation, two Students of the Year were honored. The male student was Octavio Orozco Ibarra. As a senior last year, he brought in millions in scholarship offers, including a Questbridge Scholar and the Gates Millennium Scholarship. He was accepted at 10 prestigious universities. He had a 4.5 GPA, was Student Government President, in the marching band, Hip Hop squad, Honors societies, and logged over 300 hours of community service with several clubs and organizations, including educating high school students about college preparation, voting, politics and leadership.   Ibarra is going all the way to the state of Maine, to attend Bowdoin College, to study engineering. He already has his sights on graduate school at Stanford or Columbia.
