Maryvale HS Was Named the School of the Year for the Arts- Performing and Visual Arts at the Opening of Schools Convocation

Maryvale was named the School of the Year for the Arts- Performing and Visual Arts at the Opening of Schools Convocation, August 2. This school has 1200 Performing Arts students, which is 40% of the school population. This school has 700 Visual Arts student, representing a quarter of the school’s enrollment. Students have a wide range of choices including: Band; Orchestra; Mariachi Choir; the world-traveling Guitar program; Piano; AP Music Theory; Dance; Theatre; Technical Theatre; Art; Drawing and Painting; Ceramics; Digital Photography. Many of the teachers are leaders in their district-wide Professional Learning Communities and take part in curriculum writing. The school receives students from Cartwright, Alhambra, and Isaac – three of Phoenix Union’s strongest partner districts for the arts.
