Posted by Community Relations on 9/24/2015
Betty Fairfax has had a lot of firsts in its young history, and now they are the first Phoenix Union school to field a Special Olympics softball team. They participated in their first event, September 22, winning 1-0. The team is a unified team, which means that Special Olympic athletes practice and play with their general education peers. The team is coached by Rachel Gonzalez who had her girls softball team and students from Linda Geades’ advisory period train and play with the Stampede Special Olympics team. The team also received a $1000 grant from the Arizona Diamondbacks’ Play Ball Fund which they will be using to buy equipment.
