Camelback athletes celebrated the school’s win in the Let’s Play Phoenix Challenge, May 11 with the first donation of $15,000 in sports equipment, from Good Sports, a national non-profit. Representatives of sponsors Bashas Supermarkets and the Dr. Pepper/Snapple Group attended. Tables filled with basketballs, bats, tennis racquets, softballs, running shoes and volleyballs served as the backdrop. Through April 12, Phoenix-area residents and people nationwide logged on to and took the pledge to spend more time each week participating in active play, and “donate” their pledge to a participating Phoenix school. Camelback PE teacher and softball coach Cindy Aerni led the cheers at the assembly, and led the charge to get pledges. Of the 24,000 online pledges for Phoenix, Camelback earned over 6,000.
