Alhambra had a signing party for three student-athletes April 20. Zarriea Willis, who has the state’s best girls’ high jump mark this year at 5’ 9”, signed a letter of intent to attend Texas Tech University, competing in the high jump, and 400 meters. She also plans to major in fashion design, and sports marketing. Alejandro Otero is going to the University of Colorado-Pueblo to run cross country and track, but the school’s offer came because of his academics- a 4.2 weighted GPA. This year he is taking all AP and Honors classes. Otero did not start running until his sophomore year, needing a sport when he left baseball. He wants to study chemistry, and eventually become a pharmacist. Josias Ortiz Cruz signed on to continue his soccer career with Phoenix College, with an eye on Division I soccer. His 27 goals and 13 assists (67 points) led the state this year, while the Lions were the top-ranked team for most of the year. He scored 5 goals in one game. He is going to study business and secondary education in college.
