How Cesar Chavez Fared in the 40-School Arizona Academic Decathlon

Cesar Chavez finished 9th in the 40-school Arizona Academic Decathlon, March 13-14 at ASU Polytechnic. It is the school’s fifth top 10 finish in the last six years. Cristian Buelna won bronze in Honors Science, and Julio Espinoza took bronze in Varsity Science. In Language and Literature, Marco Mares of Chavez took bronze in the Scholastic division. Overall, Buelna was 28th in Honors (of 119 decathletes); Mares was 23rd overall in Scholastic; and Chavez’ Varsity competitors were equally impressive among the field of 113 Varsity students- Marco Mendoza (12th) Alize McClure (14th ) and Espinoza (15th).
