North HS 2015 National Merit Scholar & National Hispanic Scholars

Posted by Community Relations on 2/18/2015

North has one 2015 National Merit Scholar in Sandra Dendy, but they also have one National Merit Commended student, and four National Hispanic Scholars. Yohan Sivakumar is the Commended student and Michael Spivey, Karla Garcia Torres, Guillermo Arenas, and Javier Barraza are National Hispanic Scholars.

Students receiving Letters of Commendation are recognized for their outstanding academic promise based on high scores on the 2013 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT.) Commended students represent about 2% of the 1.5 million students who take the PSAT. Since 1990, North High has had 117 National Merit Commended students.

The National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP) identifies academically outstanding Hispanic/Latino high school students. Each year, the NHRP honors about 5,000 of the highest-scoring students from over 250,000 Hispanic/Latino juniors who take the PSAT/NMSQT. Being named is an important academic recognition, and NHRP makes this information available to subscribing colleges and universities that are particularly interested in communicating with academically exceptional Hispanic/Latino students.
