Principal Ricardo Cordova has been named a semifinalist in the Rodel Foundation’s search for 2015 Exemplary Principals. Rodel will be sending a team to the school for a site visit and interview in December. The Rodel Foundation of Arizona is committed to recognizing extraordinary principals who are making a difference in the lives of students in high-need schools and putting them to work. Individuals selected as Rodel Exemplary Principals help to mentor and inspire the next generation of Arizona school leaders.

Cordova became principal of Carl Hayden in 2011. In that span, the Hayden went from a D school to a B school and experienced the greatest points improvement of any school in the District according to the State’s A-F Accountability rankings. Last year, AIMS proficiency rates jumped +12 in writing and +8 in math and reading.

Cordova was an assistant principal at the school for four years prior to becoming principal. He is in his 13th year with PUHSD, and  also served as a junior high school administrator in Cave Creek. He began his career as a special education teacher at Isaac Elementary School District in 1996. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Western New Mexico University and a Master of Education Administration from ASU.
