Maryvale Sweeps Cross Country Championships

Maryvale swept the Phoenix Union Cross Country championships, October 23 at Central High School, winning both the boys and girls races. Sammy Schilling of Maryvale won the boys race in a time of 17:10, and teammate Ismael Guerrero was second, as the Panthers had four runners in the top 15. Yarithza Soto took the top spot in the girls division, and teammates Doren Betanzos (6th) and Melanie Vasquez (8th) were in the top ten. The Maryvale Boys scored 69 poins, just ahead of host Central (75) and Trevor Browne was third with 84 points. The Panther girls’ 55 points beat Trevor Browne (67) and North (84).
