Maryvale High School JROTC Hosts Its Annual Physical Fitness Competition

Maryvale High School JROTC hosted its annual Major David Eddy Memorial Physical Fitness Competition, the second phase of the Adventure Team competition, October 18, but neighbor Trevor G. Browne dominated the event. Fifteen high school JROTC teams, including 11 Phoenix Union Army JROTC units participated in the competition consisting of five events--pull-ups, push-ups, sit-ups, sprint relay, and distance run. A team consists of 10 JROTC members, of which, two must be female. Trevor Browne took first place in four of the five events. The Bruin cadets recorded winning-totals of 138 pull-ups; 491 sit-ups in one-minute and won the sprint relay and the “Canal” distance run. 

The first phase of the Adventure Team competition took place in Flagstaff, September 26-28. In those five events, five other PUHSD schools took top honors. Central won the Fitness Challenge; North won the Leadership Reactionary Course; Alhambra took the One Rope Bridge; Maryvale was best in the Recovery Operations and South Mountain won the Land Navigation event.
