Carl Hayden JROTC Cadets Give Back to Their Community

The “Fighting Falcons” of the Carl Hayden JROTC program conducted their annual service-learning project, September 11.  This event, which was conducted in conjunction with our nation's National Day of Service, gave the Cadets an opportunity to give back to their community.  In addition to improving the appearance of the neighborhood immediately surrounding Carl Hayden High School, the Cadets learned the value of service to their community by painting over graffiti and picking up trash in the neighborhood.  By the end of the day, the Cadets had not only earned their Service Learning ribbon, they had gained a deeper sense of camaraderie, helping clean up Phoenix one alley and street at a time.

This activity is part of the JROTC curriculum is entitled Service Learning, a multi-level active and experiential learning strategy where Cadets have a direct impact on an identified need in their community that interests and motivates them.
