Phoenix Union Educators Selected to Present at the 2015 National Title I Conference

Four Phoenix Union educators were selected to present at the 2015 National Title I Conference, February in Salt Lake City. Ann Murray, English/Language Arts Content Specialist, Janice Koivisto, Teacher/Literacy Coach, Dr. Quintin Boyce, Camelback Principal and Laura Telles, Curriculum Director/Title I Administrator for PUHSD will present “Reading at the High School level: A System to Increase College and Career Readiness.”  

“We will present the District’s innovative use of data to inform decisions, program evaluation and Title I funding to address the needs of students across the district as we strive to produce college and career ready readers,” Telles said.  

Paul Lowes, the Classroom Teachers Association President for Phoenix Union, was selected as one of four finalists for the 2014 NEA Political Activist of the Year award. He was featured in the Arizona Education Association Advocate Magazine in its Fall edition.  Lowes organized “Days of Action,” that included phone banking and canvassing for state legislative races, he formed partnerships with educators in partner elementary school districts, and worked with colleagues to help pass the PUHSD Bond and Override Elections.  Lowes was a social studies teacher for 23 years at North High School.
