PUHSD Math Curriculum Specialist Honored for Leadership in Mathematics

Phoenix Union’s Math Curriculum Content Specialist Mona Toncheff has been selected by the Executive Board of the Arizona Association of Teachers of Mathematics as this year’s recipient for the AATM Copper Apple Award for Leadership in Mathematics. This award is given annually to recognize excellence in mathematics education in Arizona. She will be honored at the fall conference, September 20 at ASU.
Toncheff has been with the District since 1992. She taught math at Camelback until 2004 when she became the content specialist. Toncheff is recognized across Arizona and nationally for her work. She has co-authored two books, Common Core Mathematics at Work, and Beyond Common Core, served as the Western Region Director for the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics in 2012, and participated on an Arizona team of 24 educators on the implementation of Common Core math. Toncheff was also a Phoenix Union Employee of the Year in 2009.
