Franklin was one of six Beat the Odds partner schools to earn an "A" letter grade, in the State’s Academic Achievement grading system. In fact, it is the fourth year in a row Franklin has earned an “A.”
The Beat the Odds Institute, an initiative of the Center for the Future of Arizona, improves student performance and academic achievement at minority-intensive, low-income schools in Arizona. Based upon methodology from best-selling author Jim Collins, Beat the Odds research indicates that academic achievement is improved significantly when six characteristics are present at the school: a strong and steady principal, the establishment of a clear bottom line, on-going assessment, collaborative solutions, a program built to suit individual students and a commitment to successful established programs.
"More than one-third of Beat the Odds schools received the top two grades," Beat the Odds Director Dr. Marjorie Kaplan said. "Throughout Arizona, odds are against outstanding academic achievement in schools with low-income, high-minority student populations. Our 'A' and 'B' schools are proof that with hard work and perseverance, demography is not destiny."
