North English teacher Joann Martin was selected for the Teachers for Global Classrooms (TGC) program. TGC is a program of the United States Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
Over 400 teachers applied from 46 U.S. states and District of Columbia, and Martin was among 80 teachers who were selected for participation.

The goal of the TGC program is to provide teachers with the opportunity to explore the themes and applications for global education in the U.S. secondary school classroom. As a part of TGC, they participate in an online professional development course, attend a Global Education Symposium in Washington, D.C., travel on an international fellowship for a two or three week in-country visit, and are eligible for alumni professional development sessions and micro grants.

Martin was North’s Classroom Teacher of the Year this year, and was named the High School English Educator of the Year by the Arizona English Teachers Association last year. She teaches English Honors, AP English Literature and Academic Decathlon.
