Trevor Browne's Bruin TV producer Gabriel Gamino, along with ten other youth journalists from across the country, are this year’s PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs All-Stars. These students will travel to Washington, D.C this summer to work together with teachers and mentors from across the country for an all-expenses paid weekend of learning, hands on experiences and inspiration.  In addition to a nomination form and essay, each student had to submit a video indicating why he/she should be selected.  The nomination process included teachers and peers, who submitted videos outlining the All-Stars’ contributions to journalism and public media.  Students participating in the Reporting Labs program work with public media mentors from their local stations to produce original news reports.   Student Reporting Labs is part of ‘American Graduate: Let’s Make it Happen,’ a public media initiative funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting that is helping local communities keep more students on the path to a high school diploma, college and successful careers.
