Franklin was named a “Beat the Odds” Silver School, by the initiative of the Center for the Future of Arizona that measures school improvement for schools that are at least 50 percent low income and minority, primarily Latino.  Beat the Odds Silver schools must have a “C” or better from the Department of Education, must have ongoing assessment data demonstrating achievement and reach other criteria based on methodology from best-selling author Jim Collins.  Franklin has been an “A” school since the state implemented A-F letter grades.  The Beat the Odds program also provides mentoring and training for principals, since one of the “Six Keys to Success” is a strong and steady principal.  Lorenzo Cabrera has been the principal at Franklin for the past three years.   The Beat the Odds Institute awarded two Gold schools, nine Silver schools and 20 Bronze schools.
