Scholarships were awarded to 19 students from nine PUHSD schools at the Diversity Leadership Alliance (DLA) Youth Council Scholarship and Awards ceremony, Wednesday at Metro Tech.  These scholarships are offered by local corporations and donations of corporate staff that participate in DLA.  Three North High students had to present their personal growth speeches in order to qualify for the scholarships--Amanda Mei ($3,000 scholarship); Monica Calderon Morales ($2,000) and Michelle Michimani Leyva ($1,000).  These students were among 10 District students who participated in a six-week Personal Leadership workshop on weekends, developing greater self-awareness, self-empowerment and speaking skills.  Other top scholarships went to Xavyer Zeigler ($1,500) and Eugenia Anane-Wae ($1,000) of South Mountain and Alondra Hinojos-Zapien ($1,000) of Trevor Browne.  Metro Tech and Trevor Browne had three students who received scholarships.
