Eight PUHSD schools, including Alhambra, Camelback, Central, Cesar Chavez, Betty H. Fairfax, Maryvale, South Mountain, and Trevor Browne, attended the 29th High School Dance Festival at Mesquite High School this past Saturday February 8th. Students were able to take part in a variety of technique classes with local professional dancers and choreographers as well as take part in a performance with 34 other schools from around the state. Amanda Kinniard from Maryvale assisted with organizing adjudicators for the performances and Kristen Mast from South Mountain High School assisted with organizing the technical aspects of the performance. This year's festival was even more special for South Mountain dance teacher Susan Griffin as she was awarded the Kathy Lindholm-Lane Award. This award is given to a professional dance educator who demonstrates support for and contributes to the larger dance education community, inspires her students and colleagues, and advocates for quality dance education and the arts. Susan served as president on the Arizona Dance Education Organization (AZDEO) and has been teaching at South Mountain for 10 years.
