PUHSD Academic Decathlon Held at Maryvale

Phoenix Union had another strong showing at the Region II Academic Decathlon last Friday and Saturday at Maryvale High School.   The District placed seven teams in the top 10 of the 27-school field, and six PUHSD schools qualified for the State Academic Decathlon, which will be held next month.  Cesar Chavez placed 2nd, Alhambra 3rd, South Mountain, 4th, Maryvale, 7th, Trevor Browne, 8th and Betty Fairfax, 9th.  Bioscience placed 10th and is a State alternate.  Boulder Creek won the region.  Top individuals included Bioscience’s MacKenzie Kong-Sivert, who was the second-highest scorer in the Honors Division; Mikail Uddin of Chavez was 3rd overall scorer in the Scholastic Division and Benjamin Webb of South Mountain was third highest scorer in the Varsity Division.  Alhambra finished second in the Super Quiz Relay, with Chavez placing 3rd.
