While South Mountain started its football season August 23, nine other Phoenix Union schools kick off their campaigns with Friday night games, August 30.  However, only two teams are at home-Alhambra hosts South Mountain, and Carl Hayden plays McClintock. Other games are Camelback at Paradise Valley, Cesar Chavez at Mountain Ridge, Central at Flagstaff, Betty Fairfax at Notre Dame, Maryvale at Sandra Day O’Connor, North at Mountain Pointe, and Trevor Browne at San Luis.  This year, Phoenix Union schools will play in three different divisions.  Chavez, Maryvale and North are Division I; Fairfax, Camelback, Carl Hayden and Trevor Browne are Division II, and Alhambra and Central will play in Division III.

In the meantime, girls volleyball opens up play, September 3 for the ten Phoenix Union AIA schools.  Seven schools will compete in Division I, and three schools are in Division II.
