Metro Tech’s Culinary Arts program won a Green Award from Kendall College and the Center for the Advancement of Foodservice Education (CAFÉ) at its Leadership Conference for foodservice educators in Miami this summer.

The organization cited its many of the school’s “Ecotech” projects through a grant with the Science Foundation of Arizona, including a sustainable garden and orchard, rainwater harvesting, aquaponics, recycling water-bottle refilling stations, and its Sustainable Table Café, featuring local, sustainable foods prepared by culinary arts students.

“These are remarkable achievements for any formal culinary-arts training program, but are particularly noteworthy for a high school.,”  Christopher Koetke, vice president of the Kendall College School said.

As 2013 recipient of the Green Award, Metro Tech received a cash prize of $1,000  and complimentary full registrations to CAFÉ’s Leadership Conference.
