South Mountain Crew Wins First Place for PSA Video

South Mountain High School’s Jaguar News crew won first place honors for their Public Service Announcement video created for the Phoenix Police Department’s Stop Underage Drinking PSA contest.   The students received a first place trophy and a $5,000 prize at an awards celebration May 1 at North Canyon High School.  The money can be used for the school’s communications program.




The awarding-winning video will be used to help bring awareness, prevention, and education regarding underage drinking in Phoenix.  The News crew members were guests on Good Morning Arizona, May 6.


One judge, broadcast reporter Gina Maravilla of News Channel 3 said South Mountain’s video “blew the judges away” and that “we need to hire these guys right now.”  

Jaguar News is produced by the video production courses and part of the South Mountain High School Magnet Programs and Career and Technical Education.
