Bioscience seniors Eric Rodriguez, Omar Benitez, and Alex Jones won 1st prize in the SPARK App competition through ASU Polytechnic College of Technology & Innovation and the Town of Gilbert, May 1.  SPARK is an acronym for “Schools Participate in App Resources and Knowledge.” This inaugural contest provides recognition to high school software developer teams or individuals for developing innovative mobile applications that utilize Town data.  The Bioscience students designed a phone app that gives the user access to Gilbert town data, specifically focused on trails in and around the Riparian area.  Users can take photos of and track GPS locations of various animals to be shared with other users visiting the area.  The students won $1000 for the school’s E-tech (engineering) club fund, as well as $250 cash for each of them. Their teacher is Susan Wilson.
