PUHSD Hosted Poetry Central

The District’s annual Poetry Central was held at Camelback High School, May 3.  The event includes poetry contest winners from each campus converging for workshops with published poets   and recognition of District winners.   The overall winners were Karina Santillan, Maryvale; Jennifer Benito, North and Rosie Palacios, Camelback.  Grade 9 winner was Hunter Hazelton, Fairfax; Grade 10-Esmeralda Estrada, Carl Hayden; Grade 11-Oscar Aguirre, Maryvale; Grade 12: Brenda Orozco, Metro Tech; Bilingual-Lidia Garcia, Camelback; and Important Social Messages: Brandee Graves, South.  One hundred students attended the all-day event, working with   guest poets and ASU professors Myrlin Hepworth and Fernando Perez.  Site winners read their poems and the District winners were announced at the end of the event.
