PUHSD Scholarship Announcements Bring Exciting Opportunities

It is scholarship season, and some of the bigger scholarships are being announced.  Phoenix Union has five Gates Millennium Scholars for the second year in a row.    Bioscience has three winners- Gerardo Calderon, Elizabeth Palos and Jennifer Price-Smith.  Maryvale’s Jessica Garcia is her school’s third Gates Scholar in the last three years, and Jesus Guzman is Cesar Chavez’s second Gates Scholar in as many years.  The scholarships, which can be applied toward undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees is valued at $250,000, according to the Gates Foundation’s average expenditure per student.

The Dorrance Scholars Program had the most applicants, and named the most Dorrance Scholars, selecting 27 students for a four-year scholarship, worth $40,000 to one of the three state public universities.  Phoenix Union has five Dorrance Scholars- Luis Delgado of Central, Sergio Eseberre of Cesar Chavez, Noel Higuera of Metro Tech, Lacy Stewart of Metro and David Navidad of Trevor Browne.
