John Gerace, the manager of Central’s Global Studies magnet, was recently selected to attend a Summer Leadership Institute at Brown University in Providence, RI.

The Institute, sponsored by the University’s Choices Program, will provide 25 selected teachers from across the country with an opportunity to learn about the geographies of Afghanistan and Pakistan, as well as resources for teaching about this region of the world.  Using the scholarship and lessons found in Choices’ The United States in Afghanistan curriculum, the Institute will explore how the the program’s approach and curricular materials can be implemented to develop geographically literate students.  The three-day program will also demonstrate strategies for introducing students to multiple perspectives on the U.S. role in this region of the world.

As part of the Choices Summer Institute, Mr. Gerace will facilitate the use of Choices material in his school district and beyond

“Choices provides valuable tools for teaching the geographic and civic skills my students need to develop as citizens in our global society,” Gerace said.
