South Mountain’s Law Magnet, in connection with ASU’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law, sent four students to the 5th Annual Marshall-Brennan National Moot Court Competition, April 4-7 at American University in Washington, D.C.--Tatyana Thompson, Avery Thornton, Julianna Lerma and Deshon Childers.    Law schools across the country including Yale, Rutgers, Southern, Drexel, American, Colorado and  others work with local high school students to prepare them to argue a case in front of a panel of judges, similar to how U.S. Supreme Court Cases are heard.  Students present a 12-minute argument based upon real U.S. Supreme Court cases.  Deshon Childers was selected as one of the 24 semifinalists in the entire country.  The Moot Court team is coached by Law Magnet Teacher Matt Smith and two ASU law students.
