The school held its annual Academic Excellence Letter Program celebration, recognizing top students, based on cumulative grade point averages through the Fall 2012 Semester.  The morning assembly honored 123 students and their parents, followed by a breakfast for all attendees.  Freshmen with a 4.0 GPA; sophomores with at least a 3.9; juniors with at least a 3.8 and seniors with at least a 3.7 qualify for the Academic Excellence Letter program.  Students earn academic letters and bars for sustained excellence, and parents receive a parent pin.  The program is sponsored district-wide by Grand Canyon University.  City councilman Michael Nowakowski had inspirational words for the students and parents, and GCU’s Michael McFadden offered $176,000 in scholarships to the 22 seniors, ranging from $4,000 to $14,000.
