Metro Tech’s second boys’ basketball season was memorable.  The Knights went from a one-win inaugural season in 2011-12 to a 15-5 record this year.  Metro was ranked number one for a time this season, snapped West Phoenix’s 50-plus regular season winning streak, and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Charter Athletic Association (CAA) State Tournament, before falling to Kingman Academy, 49-44 February 20.   The Knights received   individual awards as Fernando Valdez was named 2nd Team All State and 1st team All-conference and Juan Salas earned 1st team All-Conference.  The Metro Tech coaches Mario Malaby, Manny Valente and Josh Cole also were named the CAA’s Coaching Staff of the Year.

“This past basketball season has been quite remarkable. Our boys’ team made unbelievable strides that shocked the Charter league and was a testament to our players’ work ethic. Last season, we struggled to a 1-19 record in our first year as a program. This season with mostly the same players we earned many notable accomplishments,” Coach Malaby said.
