The successful season for the Carl Hayden JROTC Rifle Team continued, February 15-16, as the Falcon cadets won the All Services Rifle Championship in Salt Lake City, Utah, beating 21 teams representing Arkansas, Oregon, California, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico and Utah.    Rifle competitions were held in Salt Lake, Ohio and Alabama, and when all the scores were counted, Carl Hayden ranked 4th in the nation for the Army, and qualified to compete in the Nationals in Anniston, Alabama during Spring Break (week of March 18).  That two-day competition will include top teams from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines.  The shooters are Alan Rodriguez (Captain), David Nieto(co-Captain), Nestor Alvarez, Mario Saenz and Caleb Castro. All of these shooters received gold medals, a team trophy, a $100 gift certificate and a  pellet rifle.   The coach is Sergeant First Class John Cordero-Torres, a former JROTC instructor who now volunteers to coach the team.   The cadets compete in the Sporter Three-Position Air Rifle division, shooting targets from prone, kneeling and standing positions.
