Marco Villegas and Jesse Roman received the highest scores possible- three “superiors” at the Northern Arizona Acting Festival, February 2, and qualified for the International Thespian Festival in Lincoln Nebraska in June.  The two performed a five-minute scene from a play entitled “Class Action,” about bullying.  It is believed to be the first time Phoenix Union students qualified for the international festival.  Villegas and Roman will perform the scene again at the State One-Act Festival, March 1.  Maryvale’s advanced theatre class of 24 attended, and under the direction of theatre arts teacher Patrick Shanahan, had its best showing ever.  Seven groups received a ranking of “excellent” and two groups received a ranking of “good.”   There are 150 students in Maryvale theatre arts classes,  including two tech theatre classes.
