Metro Tech Basketball Hosted Kings School from Sydney, Australia

The second-year Metro Tech Basketball program received a special opportunity, December 10, when it hosted the Kings School from Sydney, Australia.  Their coach contacted Metro coach Mario Malaby in October about an “international friendly game,” which he readily agreed to.   However, Metro only has one team, and the Australians were looking for three games.  Malaby took his non-starters and created a JV team, and contacted a coaching colleague at Mission Academy Charter School, who came over to play the Kings School freshmen.  Metro lost its games, but gained an experience that its players could not have imagined.

“We had a cultural gift exchange prior to the game and the kids were excited that they were the only Phoenix team that was able to play against the Australians,” Malaby said.   “It was a most excellent experience and the competition helped prime us for season. I would welcome it again, hopefully one day we can get a home and home series.”

Let the fundraising begin.  That’s a road trip.
