The Carl Hayden Wrestling team and Olympic Gold Medalist Henry Cejudo were featured in the debut of a new health and wellness series on Tr3s:MTV called “Empuje” Sunday, November 11.

In the episode, Cejudo, who attended Maryvale High, works as a mentor to Carl Hayden wrestler and football player, Mark “Tank” Montanez, who struggles to become a better athlete by overcoming his poor eating habits.

“Empuje,” or Drive in English, is a three-part documentary that features various celebrities who motivate  young Latinos to pursue healthier lifestyles.  The episode was filmed here in Phoenix last December at Carl Hayden during the winter break.   Coach Joel Lopez and the Falcons welcomed the crew and Cejudo, who continued to work with the wrestling team during last season.  The Olympian took Hayden’s top wrestler, Efren Hernandez under his tutelage, as well.

“Efren is ranked number one in Arizona right now, and Henry has been a major force in his career and development. Hopefully Efren will follow in his footsteps,” Coach Lopez said.

“Having this opportunity not only helped promote the sport of wrestling but catapults Carl Hayden Wrestling on a global map. I love working with these kids and they deserve every ounce of recognition they can get especially from a popular network like MTV.

Tr3s:MTV, Música y Más can be seen in Phoenix on Cox Channels 147 and 430, Dish Network 872 or DirectTV 445.
