My classroom promotes educational motivation, classroom engagement, academic performance, improved attendance and high graduation rates. The more my students are engaged in school and in my classroom, the longer they will stay in school. This class exposes students to the vast array of questions, ideas and values found in the different periods of literature. Being in class, taking good notes, discussing selections and sharing ideas are all essential elements to success in this class. All notes and handouts will be kept in a folder, an English Portfolio. This teaches organizational skills to the students. In addition to their in class English Portfolio, it is also suggested that the students keep an outside folder dedicated to English also. Due to the nature of this course, I find it helpful to show some films to supplement the material. We will be listening to music and watching films to help better our understanding of some assignments. All essays and reading assignments must be completed to the best of the student’s ability. The student will learn the fundamentals of essay writing and will be required to read a novel every quarter in this class.
