Ms. Jian Qin

At 18, being a teacher was the last thing I wanted to have, even though I grew up in a family of teachers. I knew how tough and challenging it would be to become a teacher. However, I ended up in Yangzhou Teacher's College in Yangzhou, a city by the Yangtze River, the largest river of China. For the first three years, I dreaded the day when I had to finally to face the eyes of students. In my senior year, the student teaching experience transformed my outlook on the teaching career. It made me fall in love with teaching. I began to enjoy sharing knowledge with students.

To become a better teacher, I decided to go to graduate school abroad. After three years of preparation in English listening, reading, writing, and grammar, I successfully passed TOEFL, a required assessment for English as second language learners. With my high TOEFL score and letters of recommendation, I was admitted into the master's program at Arizona State University with scholarship. I recieved my Master of Teaching English as a Second Language.

I have taught 6th graders and high school students English writing and grammar. I have passion for reading and writing. I have attended creative writitng classes at Phoenix College to help me improve my writing skills, which I have been able to use to further help my students in their writing. I have entered writing contests and won several awards. I have also had publication in both Chinese and English. As a writing teacher, I am very happy to help my students make progress in writing.
