Ms. Heidi Wilkes, M.Ed.

Heidi Wilkes is an experienced international educator.

Raised in the Phoenix-area, Ms. Wilkes has been passionate about education and the Arts from very early on. After graduating from high school, Ms. Wilkes returned to her alma mater as the Assistant Dance Director while pursuing her degree at Arizona State University.

While at ASU, Ms. Wilkes focused her studies on diversity in education and cultural geography and applied these concepts to her coursework by educating her students on the relationship between dance and culture. Ms. Wilkes holds a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies in Educational Diversity & Cultural Geography with a Minor in Dance.

Following graduation, Ms. Wilkes returned to ASU to pursue her master's degree focusing on curriculum and instruction in secondary education and graduated a year later in 2009 with honors.

Continuing on her path to discover diversity in education, Heidi ventured to South Korea where she was the Head ESL Teacher at two different private schools in Daegu and Seoul. While teaching in Seoul, Ms. Wilkes recognized an opportunity to enrich her young students' education and created an after-school dance program where she focused on basic movements, rhythm, and choreography. She also directed and choreographed the school's first student art showcase.

After returning to the United States, Ms. Wilkes accepted a position as the Dance Director at Tolleson Union High School in 2013. Since its inception, the program grew from 5 "beginning" dance classes to a program that consists of 5 class levels including; Beginning Dance, Intermediate I Dance, Intermediate II Dance, Tolleson Dance Company and 3x Nationals-bound Tolleson Heat Elite Dance Team.

Now starting over once again, Ms. Wilkes voraciously looks forward to bringing her 8 years of teaching experience and her passion for dance to the wonderful students of Camelback High School. Her goals for Camelback Dance are to take students to the next level in their technical abilities, foster an environment where artistic inquiry happens daily, and expose students to multiple dance styles and their relation to culture and environments.
