I am excited to begin my second year as a Cesar Chavez Champion and my 19th year in education! Before joining the team at Chavez, I served as Lead Psychology Faculty at Eastern Arizona College in Thatcher, AZ. I'm part of a hardworking team of 9 counselors who serve the 2,500+ students at Chavez High School. My specific caseload will consist of the 9th graders from Houses A & B and all ELL students grades 9-12.
I was born and raised in Yuma, AZ and, with my family's move to the Phoenix area, I am just a little closer to "home"! I have always known I wanted a career in education since I was playing "school" with my younger sisters as a child during summer vacation. Well, that imaginary game became a closer reality when I began my college education as an Honors Student at Arizona Western College in 1991. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University in 1995 and immediately began teaching in the Yuma area. During my first year in the classroom, I decided I wanted to be able to explore other areas of service in education so I pursued a Master's in Counseling from my alma mater, Northern Arizona University (GO 'Jacks!). Since completing my undergraduate studies, I have had the pleasure of serving in education for almost 20 years as a teacher, counselor and administrator in Arizona and New Mexico.
I look forward to serving the students, faculty and staff of Chavez High. Together we can make the pursuit of "success in college, career and life" all that more attainable! Go Champions!!!
