Ms. Avalos is Phoenix native and a dedicated mother of two. She was raised in Glendale and attended Glendale High School, Glendale Community College and Arizona State University. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education as well as two Master’s Degrees from ASU despite many obstacles in life. She started her career in the Glendale Elementary School District, and is currently in her 21st year in education. She often shares that she would not be in her position today without the support of her family, friends, and mentors.

After the rigorous iLEAD AZ educational leadership program at ASU, Ms. Avalos was selected as the Assistant Principal for Student Success at Trevor G. Browne High School, overseeing interventions and campus safety for the largest school in the Phoenix Union High School District. She spent two years at TGB learning about interventions, restorative practices, and instructional leadership. She was later given the opportunity to serve as the Assistant Principal for Registration at Betty H. Fairfax High School, overseeing counseling, enrollment, and staffing. Data from both schools demonstrate improvements in both school safety and academics. Ms. Avalos believes this was due to the collaborative efforts made by many dedicated individuals at each campus.

All of these experiences led Ms. Avalos to participate in an intense principal selection process. As a result, she has been blessed with the new assignment of Central High School Principal. She could not be happier to serve Central’s staff, students, and community. This year’s goals are to rebrand Central, improve school-wide systems and increase positive relationships on campus. I am originally from Hackensack, NJ. I received my BA degree in communications and elementary education from William Paterson University in NJ in 2006. I earned my MS degree in educational administration/supervision from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD in 2008. I also obtained my graduate certification in special education from Walden University online in 2014. This is my 13th year in education. In 2006, I began my career as a 5th grade language arts and math teacher in MD. From 07-09, I taught kindergarten. I moved back to NJ in 09, and went on to become a high school transition coordinator/job coach for the sped department for 5 years. In 2014, I transitioned to inner city Newark, NJ and became a special education teacher. I taught a self-contained class, grades K-2nd. In 2015, I was promoted to School Operations Manager at a magnet school, grades 6-12. My family and I relocated to Phoenix, Arizona in 2016. I was a history, science, and PE teacher at Desert Heights Academy in Tempe during 2016-17. For the 2017-18 school year, I worked as both the Dean of Students at Maricopa High School, and then was promoted to Vice Principal at Maricopa Wells Middle School in January 2018, serving in that position through May 2018. I am currently the Athletic Director at Central High School and excited about growing the athletic program.
